November is Carbon Monoxide Awareness Month! Each year in the United States, there are over 100,000 emergency visits, 14,000 hospitalizations, and more than 1,200 deaths due to carbon monoxide poisoning. These numbers are rising, however, carbon monoxide poisoning is preventable. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer, but with your help, it doesn't need to be. This is your opportunity to be the voice for carbon monoxide. This November, we invite you to use our CO Awareness Month Toolkit to share safety tips with your family, friends, and network. The toolkit is packed with daily, ready-to-use social media posts and email templates to educate people throughout the month. Spread awareness and save lives. You can also support our life-saving cause. Donations during CO Awareness Month through December 3 (GivingTuesday) will be matched up to a total of $7,500, doubling the impact of each contribution. These contributions will go towards survivor support, hosting the 3rd annual CO Safety Summit, continuing our life-saving work with the CO Safety Coalition, and protecting our first responder heroes. Together, we can raise awareness, save lives, and prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. If you have any questions, please email us at info@ncoaa.us. Thanks, Your Friends at NCOAA

Model CRR Week 2025 Proclamation Language Now Available
The model proclamation language for CRR Week 2025 is now available on the CRR Week website. I recognize that the Marshals need plenty of time to be able to get this turned into their Governor's for consideration and signature, so I am hoping we can circulate this to them as soon as possible. On behalf of the CRR Week Executive Committee, thanks in advance for helping us to get the word out early and please let me know if you have any questions or if you need anything else from me. Christopher Brunette, CO Division of Fire Prevention & Control

From Fire Chief and Former SFM Ray Reynolds on the Home Oxygen Therapy (HOT) Project. Thanks to work of Richard Miller and the staff at ESRI, the home oxygen fires that we know about (which is likely 10% of the actual numbers) were mapped in the US. I find it interesting there is a direct correlation from the top 12 states with the highest number of COPD patient’s on home oxygen are also states in the map with the highest number of dots (representing fires). In the Safe Home Care project, home health care workers were surveyed and identified patients who smoke while on oxygen as their highest danger in their occupation.

SAVE THE DATE: Discussion Summit for Consumer Fire Fighting Products
In person November 14, 2024, from 1pm to 5pm and November 15, 2024, from 8am to 12pm CT at the InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile Hotel (505 North Michigan Ave Chicago, IL 60611)
